PROJECT DETAILS

At The New York Institute of Special Education, it was crucial to design and produce accessible and attention-grabbing signage for the visually impaired. With that as our priority, we established a design focused on the campus’s architectural elements and incorporated youthful vibrant colors. The mix of old and new provided a much-needed revamp, while still paying respect to the historic surroundings. Colors were assigned for the three main buildings, dorms, and service buildings so each building entrance had a clear identity of use.

We cannot forget the importance of the new technology used, called NaviLens, which became a huge part of the design and function of the main wayfinding. Like a QR code, it uses various patterns of different colored squares to create a unique code and when scanned through an app, it reads aloud the programed message and distance of the tag from the user. The use of this technology on this project was a pairing that made perfect sense.
